When I first moved from New York City to Florida, I had been lashing for just under a year and I was struggling. Back in NYC, my clients’ lashes would still look full even after 4 weeks. But in Florida, something changed. Clients were coming back in just 2 weeks with almost nothing left.
I hadn’t changed my technique or my products. But suddenly, my retention had dropped. My confidence was crushed to the point where I was even thinking about quitting doing lashes all together.
🔍 The Search for Better Retention
Like many lash artists, my first thought was: maybe it’s the products.
I tried every bonder, glue, and “miracle” formula that promised better retention. I invested in multiple training programs designed to fix the issue.
But nothing worked.
That’s when I came across something that completely changed my career: lash wrapping with handmade fans.
✨ What I Learned About Lash Wrapping
At first, I was skeptical. I had been using premade and easy fan lashes for years. They worked fine for some clients, but for others no matter what I did the lashes would never last.
Here’s the difference I discovered:

Premade & Easy Fan Lashes
Already bonded with glue at the base
Thick, heavy bases
Quick and convenient, but often struggle to create a strong bond with the natural lash
Handmade Volume Fans
Created by the lash artist in real time
Customized to perfectly fit each natural lash
Light, flexible, and “wrap” seamlessly around the lash
Create a stronger, longer-lasting bond
Once I mastered handmade volume and lash wrapping, everything changed:
My clients’ lashes lasted longer than ever, even in the Florida humidity.
My retention issues disappeared.
My confidence was restored.
This was the secret I had been searching for all along.
🎓 Why Most Lash Artists Don’t Know This
The truth is, most lash training programs only teach the basics. Advanced skills like lash wrapping and handmade fans are rarely covered.
That means:
Most lash artists don’t even know lash wrapping exists.
Most clients never get to experience the comfort and longevity of handmade volume.
🌟 Why Handmade Lashes Are the Future
At the end of the day, the whole point of lash extensions is to:
Look natural
Last longer
Feel comfortable
Premades and clusters often fail in these areas because of their thick bases and excess glue. Handmade fans solve these issues — and that’s why I believe they’re the future of the lash industry.
At Tampa Lash & Brow, handmade volume is the only technique we use and the only one we teach.
